Mobile Network Operator, Globacom, recorded significant growth in the nation’s telecommunications sector in the third quarter with a 23 percent increase year on year to arrive at 151,063,413 million subscribers at the end of September, 2020 according to Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
This is against the 122,792,291 in the corresponding period of 2019.
Globacom gained a 33.2 percent growth in its mobile subscription base between September, 2019, and September, 2020. MTN came second on the growth chart with a 24.5 per cent growth during the period, while Airtel came thirdq with a 21.4 percent growth year on year.
Industry watchers ascribed Glo’s top performance to its wholly-owned backbone of high-capacity international submarine cable, Glo-1 which birthed unprecedented and accessible bandwidth from Europe to Nigeria and across other West African countries.
However, the fourth operator, 9mobile suffered a drop in its fortune during the same period with a 14 per cent downward slide in its data subscriptions from available figures between September, 2019 and September, 2020.
Globacom’s unrelenting system upgrade has also resulted in enhanced data service delivery to its teeming customers in voice and data, leading to the quantum leap.
The Network has engaged in a frenetic speed in broadening its broadband penetration and its reach of Glo 4G+ data services to the nooks and crannies of Nigeria
Industry analysts noted that “Globacom offers subscribers attractive data packages with unmatched value. For example, 7GB goes for only N1500, while N10,000 gives the subscriber 50GB. It also has the Mega Data plans meant for Home Broadband users such as Small Office Home Office (SOHO) and SME customers as well as high end customers who have the need for higher data benefits with longer validity periods. Apart from these, Globacom also has numerous social data plans which meet every customer’s social needs.”
