SEC, LCFE Woo Youths into Capital Market

Determined to attract more investors into the Nigerian Capital Market, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Lagos Commodities and Futures Exchange (LCFE), have urged the youths to cultivate  culture of savings to build a strong future financial base.

 The Exchange had last week, hosted students from the University of Lagos, Trinity University, Pan Atlantic University, Federal Science and Technology College (FSTC, Yaba) and Greenspring’s College  for the second edition of  Financial Literacy Seminar for students.  The high point of the seminar were investment fair, how to invest in Good and ringing of the bell for Financial Literacy.

 Speaking at the event, Mr Akeem Oyewale, who represented the Chairman of the SEC’s Financial Literacy Technical Committee (FLTC),  advised the participants to ensure that they invest only in the financial instruments offered  by the operators that SEC regulates.  Oyewale also reiterated the essence of savings as a precondition for investment.

 Corroborating him, the Director, SEC’s  Lagos Zonal Office,  Mrs Olubukanla Rufai, noted  that the event presented an opportunity to create awareness about the importance of investor education and investorprotection saying it is a step in the right direction as to teach our youths which account for 70% of the population to begin their investment journey early in life..

 In his welcome address, the Managing Director, LCFE, Mr Akin Akeredolu-Ale, posited  that the next generation is the future of the capital market and there is a need to drive the interest of young people towards the Nigerian Capital Market, Investments and Gold. 

 Akeredolu-Ale advised the participants not to invest in Ponzi schemes but  where they will see growth with the multiplier effect. He advised the participants to save their disposable income which will become the capital for investment. He also stated that the youths can buy Nigerian Gold on the Exchange with as little as forty-five thousand Naira per gram. 

The Managing Director, MoneyWise Investment Limited, Mrs Toyin Alasi, highlighted practical steps on how to start a saving and investment culture at early stage.

The Chief Operating Officer GTI Capital Limited, Mr Kehinde Hassan,  highlighted the importance of Gold and the benefits of investing in Gold instruments,

 He explained the transaction dynamics of the pioneer Gold instrument “EKO GOLD COIN” that was launched on the 28th July, 2022 by the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo -Olu at the Commissioning of the Exchange.
