On behalf of the President and Chairman of Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), Mr Oluwaseyi Abe, FCS, I welcome you to this Press Conference.

The Institute holds Annual Conference as a strategic forum to articulate issues that can move the Nigerian Capital Market and indeed the Financial Market forward.

The forum always attracts top Government delegates, captains of industries in both the Private and Public Sectors and Capital market regulators, operators and investors among others.

This year’s conference, the 20th in the series is scheduled for Thursday, October 27, 2016 – Friday, October 28, 2016 at Zinnia Hall, Eko Hotel and suites, Victoria Island, is coming at a period when all hands are on deck to address the challenges facing our economy and the effects on the capital market.

Therefore, the Conference  Theme, “Building New Pillars, Creating New Values for Sustainable Development”, is predicated on the compelling need to strengthen the competitiveness of the Nigerian economy of which the Capital Market is the hub of medium and long term source of finance. What are the pillars of sustainable development? How do we create enduring values?

Coming at this critical stage of the Nigeria’s economy which is in dire need of double digit growth, the Conference is strategically packaged to provide a platform for aggregating robust ideas aimed at creating a sustainable development and reinforcing investor confidence in our capital market. It is now clear than ever that sound fiscal and monetary policy, innovation and development of all value chains are necessary to revamp the Nigeria’s economy from its current recessionary status.

Our partners in progress, this year’s Conference will attract finance and industry experts who are expected to discuss the theme from various perspectives and proffer workable solutions.

The securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other Capital Market Stakeholders have actively supported the Conference. An integral part of the Conference is the Awards of Associates and Conferment of Fellowship to members.Last month, the Institute held a very successful Investiture which ushered in its 20th President Mr Oluwaseyi Abe, FCS.

An important segment of the Conference is the induction of our Associate members and Conferment of Fellowship to deserving members.
